About a week ago, I had the opportunity to visit Maxwell Wildlife Refuge.

Maxwell Wildlife Refuge is located about an hour north from Wichita, just outside Canton, KS in McPherson County.

Maxwell Wildlife Refuge is a 2,800-acre wildlife refuge that is home to bison and elk.  They offer a variety of tours to see Bison and Elk (the Elk are normally only visible in the winter months).  Tours are taken on trams that drive you around their refuge, including driving into a herd of Bison.

This particular tour that I took was a "Sunrise Photography Tour".  Little did I know that I would be the least experienced photographer there!  Unfortunately, the sunrise was a bit disappointing that day but it was still an amazing experience.  My favorite part of the trip was when a bison named "Gimpy" (he's the grandpa of the herd) walked right beside the tram, looked at me and the other visitors, and seemed to be telling us hi.  Pretty amazing.

I happened to find out about Maxwell Wildlife Refuge from the Travel Kansas app.  If you don't have this app, I encourage you to download it.

I will be going back again in May for their "Baby Bison Spectacular" tour.  So, stayed tuned for that! I'm a bit excited to see some baby bison!

Here is the link for Maxwell Wildlife Refuge for more information.  It's well worth the visit!
