I have a "bucket list' of things to see in Kansas and Teter Rock was on that list.

Teter Rock is located in the ghost town of Teterville, Kansas which is Greenwood County in the Southeast region of Kansas.

A little bit of history about Teter Rock and Teterville.
In the 1880's James Teter and his family moved to Kansas to raise cattle. Not long after, James Teter piled a large pile of rocks as a marker to guide pioneers searching for the Cottonwood River.
By the 1920's, Teterville was founded as an oil town and was named after Teter who owed around 6900 acres. As the town grew, the rocks from Teter's marker were removed and used for construction materials.
Teterville had more than 600 people along with two general stores, a school, a post office, and shotgun houses for oil workers and their families. Unfortunately, the Teterville community eventually faded away but Teter Rock was reconstructed in 1954. The 16' slab of rocks were erected in honor of Mr. Teter.
I think my favorite part of Teter Rock was the journey (despite the unexpected snow packed roads and almost getting stuck a few times!). The views that you experience are amazing!

Teter Rock...definitely add it to your Kansas bucket list too!
So, my newest Kansas bucket list item is to experience a sun set at Teter Rock and to see the view of the stars. Stay tuned for that!
