It's Spring Break for many here in Kansas! Hooray for break!
One of my "to do list" items over break is to get caught up on the blog. So, here goes!
On an unseasonably warm day in January, I was finally able to journey to a place that I had been wanting to visit for a long time.
Elk River Hiking Trail.

Elk River Hiking Trail is just outside of Elk City, KS along the Elk City Lake. It is located in the Southeast region of our state in Montgomery County.
This trail is a 15-mile trail that has some of the most unique and amazing views I have seen on a hiking trail, including a small waterfall, various bluffs, rock canopies, and giant boulders.
I started on the west trail head and was almost immediately immersed into the diverse trail. I only went 5 miles that day but am looking forward to going back again to do the whole hike. Here are a few pictures from my hike.

After the hike, it was time for Barbecue!

A small town in Sedan, KS has a diamond in the rough called Buck's BBQ. If you are ever in Southeast Kansas, be sure and check this local restaurant out. You won't regret it!
And, if you happen to be in Sedan, be sure and visit what I believe is one of the prettiest waterfalls in Kansas. Butcher Falls is just about a mile away from Sedan off of Highway 99. An amazing sight for our state.

Isn't Kansas amazing? This state never ceases to amaze me. I love this state.
Stay tuned....more blog posts coming over this break, including traveling to my absolute favorite place in this state.
