If you are looking to get off the beaten path and literally find something in the middle of nowhere, you should check out Faris Caves.

Faris Caves are located in the Central part of Kansas near Kanopolis in Elsworth County.

Be warned, these caves are a bit of work to find. Be sure and have a GPS guiding you as the majority of the drive is on dirt roads out in the middle of nowhere. I wasn't sure we'd find it but thankfully our GPS didn't steer us wrong.

Faris Caves are man-made caves that were carved into the sandstone rock. According to various websites, these caves were used as a home, a refrigerator, and even a school house. The fact that these caves were a part of someone's life is amazing to me. Click below if you'd like to learn more about the history of the caves.

While getting to the caves may be a bit of a drive, I think it's well worth it. I'm glad to have experienced these caves and see a tiny glimpse into what life was like for our early pioneers.
